Any faster worm gears for the Millionaire?

Post by tincanary » Mon Apr 01, 2024 8:19 am

I'm building out another Millionaire but this time with a SV Boost PE 1000 and contemplating running 7.2 Alphas SV105 gears, but that would require the use of a faster worm. I know the worm for the Millionaire CT would work theoretically, but it is too short to work with the wider spool. Is the worm used in the Millionaire shared with any other platform? Say the Japanese made Alphas or Zillion by chance? If not, I'll just stick with the 5.8s. This reel is going to be used pier fishing around the Detroit River, so lots of smallmouth, walleye, and white bass.

I'm not sure if the OG Alphas worm gear levelwind is compatible, but I'll ask Tim to chime in.

I have an OG modded/tuned CVZ 103 with the OG Zillion 1016 SV spool and it's a great pairing. Still, the levelwind worm gear is the original from the 5.8:1.

Yes, the OG SV105SH/alphas sv/px68/px-r worm gears fit, but they are discontinued.

It looks like I can get the SV105SH worm from Plat, thinking I'll go that route and grab a Millionaire CT spool tension cap as well. Maybe I'll grab the SV105SH gears as well, looks like I can get those too.

Dang, WOW!

The 7.2:1 makes the Millionaire so much more applicable for more techs than the 5.8:1.

I really don't mind the 5.8s as I prefer reels in the 20" to 26" range, I like the torque. I'll be using this reel mostly on the Detroit River and that current is wicked, especially with a hot fish on the line.

I wanted to swap the 7.2 into my OG purple Alphas and put the 5.8 in the CVZ, but I actually like the IPTs on the Alphas for cranking, smaller chatters, and even some topwater. I actually use my 7.2 CVZ 103 for buzzbaits, lipless, WPs.

Parts are slowly arriving. The reel and rest of the parts should get here over the next couple of weeks. This will be a good one!
