2015 aldebaran spool bearing sizes please help!

I made a recent purchase through hedgehog studios for some spool bearings for my aldebaran. They said it was a (2) 1030's , when I installed the bearings which are both the same size , only the side plate fit and the cast control bearings wouldn't fit it was too big . .... Sucks cause I made the purchase through Japan and have the hassle of getting this fixed ... Can someone confirm the spool bearing sizes for the side plate and cast control cap ? No need for the bearing on the spool ... Please help thanks fellas

Not sure that the 2015 model will have the same bearings, as I have not worked on these yet.

I suggest that you contact Hedgehog and speak to Akira Kato. He is knowledgeable and helpful. Sure he will put things right.

I was very disappointed since I have a big fishing trip tomorrow and was excited to have them installed . It's more of a hassle than anything . My BFS limited xg are 3x7x3 for both , the standard 2015 aldebaran for sure is one 3x10x4 the cast control is bigger than the 3x7x3 . That's where my problem lies ... I contacted them and will see what they say ...

If someone from Shimano product support can shed some light that would be great ...

What I noticed is that the stock bearing on the cast control area has a larger inner raceway to support the pinion gear , spool shaft does not sit on the bearing because it's x-ship . Normally the shaft sits directly in the bearing . I hope this makes sense ...

Do you have the schematic that came with the reel. I know from other JDM reels that their schematics show the bearing size.

5x9x3 is the size I see on the Shimano Japan schematic.

I see ! That's the size we are talking about ... How could hedgehog over look this ? Is it standard protocol to know bearing size before they send out the product to the consumer ?

Okay I received some clarification from hedgehog .... Spool shaft bearing is he 1030, I assumed the cast control bearing , he apologized for not stating that on the website . He says bearing replacement at the cast control will not improve casting since it only helps loading with the pinion bearing attachment ( makes sense) . Well I have to get a set of spool pin pliers now lol!

The Hedgehog Spool Pin Remover works great for removing the pin in order to replace the spool bearing. You can also tap out the pin while clamping the shaft in a vise (make sure you wrap plastic or tape to prevent scratching/marring the shaft).

We definitely appreciate your passion for attempting to create the highest-performing gear possible. Obviously, we share that same passion. However, as Shimano we can't really explain or be responsible for the sizing of an aftermarket company's bearings. We hope you understand.

Also, a higher ABEC rated bearing simply reduces vibration at high RPM. The stock spool will just never reach that high of RPM. Plus, we use the new Silent Tune feature which eliminates almost all vibration that can affect casting performance. In stock form the Aldebaran is capable of casting lures that weigh as little as 3/16 ounce. So, overall, changing the bearings will not have a significant impact on the performance of this reel.
