Shimano Curado 200 7:1 Problem ?

Post by spotaholic » Wed Oct 03, 2007 4:30 pm

Let me start out by saying I am not a new baitcast user. I use only Shimano baitcasters and have never had this problem. I have one of the new 7:1 Curados and regardless of what I do it backlashes. I pull out 2 or 3 or 4 or all 6 pins and adjust the knob on the right side and it never stops backlashing. The spool appears to have resistance on the spool but as soon as I cast birds nest. It seems to be on the back end of the cast. All my other Shimano reels are set 2 pins out and adjust the side knob and leave it alone but I can't even get one cast. I also should say this reel is almost brand new. Any ideas? Thanks

i have the same reel, usually i am running 2-3 weights depending on the wind conditions, and it does act up sometimes.. but nothing serious..

what type of line are you using? lure weight?
have you tried swapping over to green weights? they are a little heavier...
make sure the brake collars are lightly oiled and move freely.
make sure the spool tension spacers are in good shape and in proper place on both sides.

Instead of a thin coat of oil, get a Q-Tip and clean the inside of the break rim with alcohol. Also clean any oil off the tips of the little plastic weights. Then start with all six of the weights backed out.

make sure your centrifugal friction ring and blocks is free of any oil. centrifugal system are usually very reliable and has ntg much to go wrong

I found that the cast control cap on mine requires a tad more tension than my Citica 200E's, but with three brakes on it sings.

Maybe the rod you are using is too stiff for the lure? This means the rod is not loading correctly to give you a good cast and will lead to a backlash.

I too find myself turning the cast control knob a lot more on my Curado 200E's than I do compared to my Citica 200E's or Chronarch D's to avoid backlash or some line overrun. I really can't pin point it, but it just seems that for the time being that I merely just have to cast more forcefully with the Curado's. I just run two brake pegs on my reels. Anyway the reels have been respooled with fresh braid lines now, so maybe there's going to be some difference this year.
