Comp to Calcutta 815 XFA

Post by dragon1 » Fri Dec 20, 2013 12:39 am

Anything in the Shimano or Loomis lineup that is comparable?

Also, what were the specs of the 815 XFA for line weight and length? Was this rod 81" long or was it an 8'1", five power, extra-fast action?

one of my favorite all-time inshore rods :D

CL-815XFA Extra Fast Action
8'
12-20lb

i fished 15-17lb and occasionally 20lb on it. fits the definition of extra fast to me. i dont have any 8' Loomis to compare, though i can compare it to the other 8' models in this series as well as other 8' rods i own or have used ...i'd be interested in hearing from Bantam1 if there is a worthy replacement!

The Teramar TMcX11MH will be the closest in action.

how is this model different from the CL-815XFA...shorter handle, more parabolic?

I am interested as well...are the components on the same level and is the blank subsidized from the GLoomis side of Shimano?

This rod uses our TC4 blank material. The action will be very similar. It's a blend of E glass and carbon to make a more durable blank. Nothing will be identical to the 815XFA but this is as close at it will get.

What about the components, are they comparable?

They are actually better. The Teramar uses Fuji Alconite. The old Calcutta used Aluminum Oxide guide inserts.
