The Torium A offers several design improvements over the previous generation. First thing the angler will notice is the S-Compact Body. We have reduced the overall size and combined the palm side and frame into one piece. This gives the feel of holding onto a smaller reel while not sacrificing the line capacity by reducing the spool size.
Next we have added E.I. to the frame and side plate to reduce corrosion. This special surface treatment is applied after the anodizing process. It removes any microscopic “peaks and valleys” where corrosion can attack. We then applied paint over the E.I. to further protect the finish. In testing we found that the reel is up to 700% better against surface corrosion when compared to the previous Torium.
To improve the drag performance we have changed the material to Cross Carbon. This material is capable of handling high temperatures and providing smooth consistent performance at high pressure settings.
We have sealed the roller clutch bearing to prevent water intrusion. This is a common area where water can enter the reel from salt spray and those rough days on the water. The bearings have been changed to our S-ARB bearings to further improve durability.
To boost the casting performance we have given the Torium A our Super Free system. By adding a bearing to the pinion gear, friction is reduced. This helps maintain the position of the gear eliminating contact between the spool shaft and pinion gear.
The oversized and aggressively shaped drag star is easy to get to should you need to make an adjustment during the battle. This is a very handy feature that everyone involved in testing made a comment about.
