Are these gone forever? just curious. they were a really cool feature that no one else had except for Shimano. now they are phasing them out :(

Thanks, I realize there is a post (heck I posted on it lol) but I wanted to get Bantam's take on what is happening.

I for one hope they start to bring them back.

I know people have debated on their usefulness as it typically gave access to a pinion gear that would normally have grease not oil put on them, but when I lube up my reels with oil at the beginning of the season using the port, it does seem to make a difference.

Two reasons.

Water entry point into the frame.

Some customers were using that port to fill the reels with oil or grease. This resulted in a poor feeling reel, or premature damage to the gears. Many customers did not even use it.

A decision was made by the QC team to eliminate this feature. I liked it because it made it easier to service some of the spinning reels. I do understand the reason to eliminate it.
