17 Scorpion DC Gears

Post by Tony9 »

Just curious if the Curado 70/200i gears will directly swap with the new JDM 17 Scorpion DC. Thanks!

I do not know the answer to this. I will not be able to get it until next week when our QC guy is back from Japan. Biannual meetings taking place there right now. It will be difficult to get any help until they are done next week.

I forgot to follow up on this. Curado 200I gears should work but let me confirm. It's 5:00am in CA so I will have to wait until he arrives to get the answer. My apologies for not following up.

No worries at all. Thanks for looking into this. I bought a 6.3 and it would be cool to have a 7.2 and 8.2 option.

Bantam1,

Just wanted to confirm if the 71 XG gears will also work before I place an order. You only previous mentioned 200I gears.

Thanks

The reel is based on the Curado I tooling. The gears from the 70 might fit, but technically are not correct.

CI/CU200/201 and the CU70/71 use all the same gears.

That's what I figured but I searched and haven't heard of anyone swapping 8.2 XG gears into their CU 200i.

My original plan was to make this my topwater reel with 8.2 gears. I think going with the 7.2 gears will make it more versatile (cheaper too!) for lipless and shallow cranking as well as topwater.

The HG gears came in and installed fine. A little more gear noise and vibration than the outgoing stock 6.2 gears, which were pretty darn smooth. Hopefully they just need time to break in. Bothered me at first but it'll have to do. Don't know if there is a tolerance difference between the JDM Scorpion DC gears and Curado I gears.

The higher the ratio, the more the chance at them making noise. Thats my observation anyways. YMMV

There should be no noise or vibration. This is probably because the gear alignment isn't perfect since they were not really made for that reel. There is a difference between the 70 size reel and the 200. If they are working and you can live with it, fish on.
