I'm not sure to be honest. I have discussed it a few times with some different people, but I think the cost would be about the same as the Tranx.

I’d actually be ok with the cost being the same or close to the Tranx, as long as I could get it in a high speed version (7:1 plus) with a standard handle (no power knob). Basically an updated version of the 300e with a slightly higher gear ratio.

If we did a Curado 300K it would more than likely share the Tranx 300 tooling without some of the water resistance built into it. My suggestion would be to get the Tranx 300HG and swap it to the double handle. It will be fine for bass applications. I did this with a 400HG for my big glide bait reel.

The Tranx 300 is nice but the way it’s packaged I’d have to buy the reel for $280 and the paddle handle for another $35. That’s a little more than I wanna spend. For some reason current offerings seem to have left out the freshwater market guys for the 300 size reels. Bantam - if even you are changing out your handle on the 400 Tranx then you know there’s a market for a larger Curado K for those guys wanting a swimbait/Muskie/Salmon/glide bait reel.

What I'd find suitable is a alternative spool like the old Curado B's, sure they're heavier than the new spool designs but they'd sure offer more line onto the spool to compensate the issue of line loss...

The majority of the CU300 model reels were sold into the saltwater market. The rest were split pretty evenly between the bass and muskie markets.

I don't think a deeper spool on the 200 would solve the demand for a smaller diameter spool 300 size reel.

Don’t forget us Salmon/Steelhead guys in Nor Cal and the Pacific Northwest - we bought the snot out of the CU300!

Bought a Tranx 300 PG the other day. Man awesome reel, part for part reminiscent of a Curado I series, bar the multi plate drag and seals. Added 5 bearings, one to level wind shaft and the rest to knobs and a couple shims also to tighten up...

I did wash that hydrophobic coating off the seals (and grease out of the AR) and coated them in a fine layer of silicon grease and the reel is far far far easier to wind and smooth as frig!

Silicone grease will not reduce friction over the coating on the seals. I'm sure the extra bearings and flushing the grease out of existing bearings did the majority of reducing the heavier rotation feel. These reels were made for saltwater use, so eliminating those items will reduce the protection in saltwater. Keep that in mind when if you are using the reel in the salt.

I think there's merit in removing the coating - it's like the drag knob seals when they grab the spool and do strange thi gs like self tighten etc. I'm a stickler for greasing the inner plastic of the drag knob where the lip seals seated and also around the outer extremities of the rubber seal where it makes contact with the spool.

Same sort of theory with that spool seal in the Tranx. I've just noticed that the free spool now is much better than out of the box. I'll still have the seal but it'll be lightly greased for penetration...
