Need a drive/ring gear for old Stradic 4000 FG

Post by Jbassman11 » Mon Oct 21, 2019 1:42 pm

I was replacing the bearings on my Stradic 4000 FG, but the old ones were really rusted (from saltwater use I presume, purchased the reel second hand) and long story short, I cracked the shaft on the old gear trying to remove the old, seized on bearing.

I found that the part number is RD6525, which is no longer available from Shimano and I cannot source any from eBay or any of the common reel repair sites at this time.

Does anyone know where I may be able to find one of these gears, or if a gear with a different part number will cross-reference to be the same size/fitment/gear ratio as this one?

There will not be a cross reference part. As with any reel gears need to be replaced as a set. You will need both the drive and pinion gear. We have several service centers across the US. You will need to call around and see if any have gears left. I would suggest Coastline in NC, Paul's Bait & Tackle in MO and Nutter Rod & Reel in GA first.

I actually have the pinion gear on order already, should be delivered by Friday, hopefully. I will give those service centers a call and see if they have any, thanks!

They have been out of production since mid 2002 so it does not surprise me.
