BANTMGL151XG spool removal

Post by bassfisherman619 » Mon Nov 25, 2019 12:24 pm

Hi Bantam, I purchased a Bantam MGL and Loomis rod combo recently. I can't seem to remove the spool. I've loosened the cast control knob but can't seem to pull the spool it out. Is there a trick? I also have a SLX that's fine.

Thank you. I can get the side plate off fine. It's the spool that won't come out.

The spool just needs a harder pull than usual, and it comes right out. I was wondering the same thing when i first got my bantams 2 summers ago. The spool isn't stuck, that's just how it was on both my bantams.

Take the side plate off hold the exposed spool end down wards and with both index fingers slowly coax the spool downward carefully not to drop it on any hard surface, it'll sort of pop / click free...

It's because of the rubber O ring in the silent tune bearing sticking / grabbing inside its bearing cup with the spring as shown.

I'll try again when I get home. Thank you.

The o-ring makes it stick a little. You can remove the cast control cap and push the spool shaft with a small screwdriver if you have to once the side plate is off. Usually you can use your fingers and press/grip/pull it enough to get it out.

OK. I'll try again later. I don't want to mess it up. I guess I'm use to the old e series. Thanks for all the tips.

The o-ring helps reduce play in the bearing which can induce tiny vibrations in the spool. Eliminating this helps with casting performance, even as slight of a change as it is. The result is a bearing that fits tight in the pockets. The one on the left side plate can be tough to get out too.
