Opinions on GLX Warranty Submission

Post by Drakestar » Sun Jan 05, 2020 12:34 pm

Hi, 1st time poster after a recommendation at WesternBass. I'm looking for some advice/experience on how to act on a broken Loomis GLX 843 that I got for Xmas. The tip broke off yesterday on the 2nd time on the water (poor rod never even caught a fish!) while I was putting the bait in the hook keeper. Trying to decide between using the Xpeditor program ($100 no questions asked replacement, shipped right away) and sending in the rod for warranty evaluation (have to pay upfront shipping, might take a bunch of time, they might ask me to pay a $100+ fee anyway to repair/replace). It all comes down to how confident I am that this will be deemed a defect, and I have no idea.

The tip snapped clean between the tip and 1st guide. I'd like to think that I don't put undue stress on my rod tips when doing every-day stuff like hooking a bait back into the keeper and this is the first time this kind of breakage has ever happened to me. Not trying to convince anybody here of my "innocence", just explaining why I'm perplexed. (I have a lot of finesse rods and practice in treating those rods.) So, honest opinions would be awesome - I'll pay the $100 Xpeditor fee if needed, just need to decide if it's worthwhile to even send this rod in for eval.

Thanks for your feedback!

It looks like a pretty clean break, I would send it in as normal warranty, although it might take a bit longer to get back.

But if you are in a hurry and want no questions asked you can do the Xpeditor program.

If you go normal warranty just explain what happened like you did here on the forum.

Welcome by the way...

Send the rod in for warranty. A failure that quick is either a defect in the blank or something happened in shipping or at the dealer level. Either way it should be covered.

Send it in with a letter explaining what happened and the time line of how long you have had the rod. They will warranty it imo. I have never sent a rod To G Loomis and not have them stand behind it.
