My thumb bar won’t press down at all.

Have you had it apart? If the pinion yoke is in upside down that will do it, or the yoke is in backwards.

Usually has something to do with the pinion gear not able to move. When fishing in the salt, the pinion bearing can corrode and stick to the pinion gear. Have also seen it occur from fishing in heavy rain. Could also be a burr on the pinion gear, but the pinion gear/bearing is where I would start looking.

I've never seen heavy rain cause an issue, but it's possible I suppose. Check the pinion bearing and gear like JB said. That is the most common issue. If there is some light corrosion you can use some 600 grit sandpaper to clean the bearing contact surface of the pinion gear. This will remove any tarnishing making the gear not slide in the pinion bearing. If the bearing has rust, just replace it.
