2017 Scorpion DC Handle Replacement Options
I was wondering if someone can help resolve my scorpion reel handle length issue. I was looking to replace my 2017's scorpion reel handle due to being too short. Do you guys think the Curado 71 MGL's handle would fit on my Scorpion. (Would you know how long the Curado 71 MGL's handle?) And/or do you know if there are any other current models of shimano reels that have a longer handle that would fit my scorpion. I would definitely prefer something that has a minimum of 90 to 96mm length. I greatly appreciate your time. Thanks
Re: 2017 Scorpion DC Handle Replacement Options
Most current Shimano casting reel handle will fit, I've replaced all of my Shimano HG reels that came with 84MM handle with
90MM -18 Bantam MGL XG handle assembly, including my 17 Scorpion DC and added couple more bearings, 96MM from other models should also fit with no problem.
I know Curado 71 HG comes with 90MM handle assembly, XG comes with 96MM handle assembly I think.

Re: 2017 Scorpion DC Handle Replacement Options
Any of the newer swept handle styles will work, or should work. The XG handles will be 95mm, HG are 90mm and some 6.x:1 models use 84mm. It varies slightly by model. I think the exception is the Bantam but I would need to double check. I think they are 90mm for HG and XG. Yu might need to change the handle nut retainer depending on the handle you go with. There are some slight variations to the lightening cuts on the handles.

Thank you all for clarifying my concerns. tdm - what bearings did you use as replacement and did it make a difference. I have some Boca bearings (orange) that 3x10x4. Would these fit in the scorpion dc 2017?
Thanks, I appreciate everyone's engagement and opinion...
Re: 2017 Scorpion DC Handle Replacement Options
I didn't add anymore bearings in the reel itself, there's no need. I was referring to the 18 Bantam XG handle assembly, since it only has 2 bearings and 2 bushing in the knobs from the factory, I usually replace those bushings with bearings part number (BNT4187) or new part number (104VX).basskeeter1 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 7:25 pmtdm wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 5:55 pmMost current Shimano casting reel handle will fit, I've replaced all of my Shimano HG reels that came with 84MM handle with

You don't have to use 18 Bantam XG assembly, there are other options in Shimano's offering or go aftermarket, it's all up to you.
Factory knobs of your reel should have 2 bearings and 2 bushings, you could use those 2 bearings? just an idea.
The 3x10x4 orange bearings you have is for the spool, I wouldn't recommend replacing the factory spool bearings since those are still the best unless they go bad. IMO
To me replacing those bushing with 2 more bearings makes a difference, it makes everything tighter, less play and smoother.
I also bought some handle knob washer/shim (10G8G) a while back to dial in the knobs even more, a pack of it comes with few different thicknesses of shim and should cover what you need, but that just me though.
Bantam1 is right you also have to purchase a Handle nut plate (10SSK), handle nut and plate screw should be fine if you choose to stay with Shimano handles.
