Shimano Core50/Curado 50/ Chronarch 50 Drive shaft bearing size.

Post by Real Pudd legend » Sat Dec 30, 2023 7:34 am

Hi,

Can someone confirm the exact bearing size for the bearing under the idle gear of the drive shaft? This bearing seems to be the common size for a lot of reels. Part #31 on the CH-50E schematic..

Thanks in advance!

5x9x3

generic bearing code/number MR95ZZ, SMR95ZZ. (S prefix means stainless)

NMB minebea bearing code ddl-950zz

Shimano part numbers for this bearing:

-105BL (direct replacement for bnt0031)
-105BP (NMB) (Seemingly the most common specific part number used in most shimano reels today for this size)
-105BR (NSK Casstops great for saltwater corrosion resistance)
-105BV

Most if not all shimanos I own use this size for the drive shaft support bearing and most baitcasters of all brands use this size for the side plate pinion support bearing so I like to keep a supply of them on hand.

I will agree most use this size, but there are plenty of models that use a smaller size, or bearings of different dimensions. Always double check the schematic first.

The 105BV bearing to add a little more info, is a high corrosion resistant bearing but with composite shields to reduce weight. They are specific to the Aldebaran reel.

The bearings all have the same dimensions but the grease type inside varies. This affects the rotation feel and how much load they can handle. In the newer model reels we are using the 105BP and 105BR for these reasons. They handle saltwater better and handle force and loads better for the applications they are used.

The high corrosion resistant type bearings have two small grooves machined on the outside of the outer bearing race. They should be used in saltwater applications, and especially with the pinion gears that have chrome plating for the bearing support surfaces (X-Ship equipped reels 2017-current). A small amount of ACE 2 grease should be applied to the plated surfaces of the gear, and/or inner raceway of the bearings to ensure smooth movement of the pinion for clutch operation and to reduce corrosion potential.

You have no idea. There are so many other things that I could literally write a book.
