Welp turned out to be a side plate issue after all, inside of original side plate had heavy wear/damage marks and the new clutch was even looser in it. Thank god japanese used marketplaces exist because I managed to luck out and find a guy selling a reel he parted out and snagged a side plate assembly for $12. Now it feels like how I thought it should. You can visibly see the difference and how it was affecting alignment by how much light is coming through the gap in the bearing to sideplate fitment.

It looks like the side plate was on the loose end for tolerance for sure, or the bearing has been pressed in and out way too many times creating excessive wear. I think I could have found a tighter fitting bearing to work, but glad you were able to find a cheap side plate for it.

Doubt any bearing would fit properly it was BAD, bad enough to where if you put any more than mild pressure you could overset the bearing and push it deeper than It has any reason to go. This thing was apparently put through the wringer by whoever owned it in japan before me.Bantam1 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 1:15 pmIt looks like the side plate was on the loose end for tolerance for sure, or the bearing has been pressed in and out way too many times creating excessive wear. That looks like someone tried to pound the bearing in when it wasn't aligned correctly. That is not something we see often.
