Hybrids at the Res

Post by davej » Wed Aug 15, 2007 6:43 pm

Well after seeing NJVbass's Huddleston shad fish and the fact I blanked last sat at the Reservoir I decided to cut out of work early, grab two rods, the Huddleston shad in ROF3 and the Baby wake in shad and try and get these fish to bite.. I was fishing from the shore at the mouth of a cove where these hybrids sometimes push the gizzard close enough to shore to cast to them.. well they were busting like crazy, multiple fish driving the shad out of the water with these vicious explosions.. I got my first on the shad.. I would see one busting bait on the top, quickly cast into it, flip it a few times across the water and then start my retrieve they were crushing it.. after 2 fish on the shad (one landed and one popped off as I was reaching for it) I started throwing the baby wake.. I talked to this guy who explained why the hooks were hanging when I was trying to really make that bait jerk back and forth (he said don't give it slack line and the hooks won't catch) well it worked.. I casted this puppy out there and jerked the crap out of it and they would just go crazy.. these fish have such small mouths that they would blast this thing out of the water multiple times before getting a hook in mouth.. my buddy Pete that was standing next to me was amazed at how aggressive they would hit this bait over and over again.. I landed 2 and had a bunch of blow ups.. The biggest went 5 1/4lbs on the boga......

I'm going to sleep with a smile tonight..

Awesome. The pics/report remind me how much fun it is to fish for stripers from the beach.

Your In Bud... you can get the Byron Velvick suite.. comes with wall to wall mirrors and extra outlets for Hair dryers, curlers, flat Irons and plenty of counter space for hair products..

you and ShinnerKing need to pic up a few of these new wake bait jr.. If you don't like them I will buy them back from you..

I got a couple.
I've crossed paths with SK at his one lake, but have not fished the fruity one. Both he and NJVBass have offered to take me to the fruity place. Maybe I can use my WakeBait Jrs. as leverage to make those trips happen. LOL ;)

It cannot go without saying that davej is obviously quite the fashion plate on the water and on the go! After a hard day of fishing, he's ready to "meet the gang" at the local bistro!
