Smallie at The Res

Post by davej » Thu Aug 16, 2007 6:30 pm

Left my fricken camera at home so I have a crudy cell phone pic.. Caught a nice smallie on the Huddleston shad in ROF3 today. Just working the drop off from shore, just casting out and slowly working it back. This bad boy crushed it.. jumped like 3 times and shook so much the shad actually flew off the harness. I quickly re-tied and after a few casts I hook into something that feels big I knew it wasn't a hybrid because it didn't take off like a rocket.. I felt the weight of this fish as just started swimming off and then snap my lines comes back baitless.. I felt the line and it was frayed for about 12" up the line.. In my hast to get back casting I forgot to strip off a few feet of line after that smallie.. rookie move.. and that was the last one I brought with me.. you can't beat a smallie in the dead heat at 3pm on a moving bait.. Lucas take another look at these..
Rod: MBR 783C GLX
Reel: Upgraded Alpha 103L
Line: 10lb gama

I then tied on a 7" 4 Jointed Floating Trout from 22nd Century.. after a few casts a nice Large mouth came up and crushed it, I had the my buddy Pete take a quick picture but right after the picture I notice a little blood on her side.. the second treble nicked her gill from the outside under the gill plate.. It wasn't a lot of blood and I quickly got her back in the water and she swam off fine.. I will post a pic of the bait instead of the fish..
Rod: Powell 766 H
Reel: Upgraded Zillion 100SHL 7.1
Line: 20lb Gama

fatty man!

quick question - when you fish smalies with the hudd shad - do you wait for the rod to load up and swing or are you swinging when you feel the hit?

I get bit a lot on this bait but I havn't figured out the right way to hook into them yet.

BPM: I get bit a lot on this bait but I havn't figured out the right way to hook into them yet.
This Guy crush it.. I felt the smack and the rod instantly loaded and I did a hip move that would have made Shakira Blush...
I notice this taps yet no rod would load.. I'm thinking they were perch hitting it..
As for the Hybrids last night same thing the bait would get whacked hard and you would just need to lean back..

Arbo: That is a quad trout.. and yes you need to get a big handful of those Trip-trouts I have only used the SS version and I love them.. no need for me to get the FS right now..

Not sure but the shallow is between knee and thigh deep (your waist) and goes out pretty far.. I was told that the hackensack river used to run through the center (I guess before they damed it to make the Res)

come on up for a weekend we will check it out.. bring your neck wadders..
