Has anybody fished the Megabass Vatalions? How does it compare to a Gantarel, for example?

More comparable to the Gantarel Jr in size... runs deeper than the Gantarel Jr with slightly more resistance in the water. Its a two piece bait where the Gantarel is a 3. Best fished at a slow to medium speed...

"A big, overgrown, two-piece lipless crankbait." Hmm, I think I could run with that. Sounds like the stock hooks need replacing anyway, wondering if stouter hooks would make it suspend rather than rise.

Different action, it's more of a cross between a lipless and a cover style glide bait, less fluid motion than the gantrel. I love that you can fish it shallow over submerged weeds.

I hated it at 1st because I threw both and the Gantarel constantly outfished the Vatalion 20:1 but then i realized I was fishing them both slow and slow is not how the Vatalion wants to be fished. About the time the water warms up and I put the Gantarels away is when the Vatalions should shine as a more aggressive bait. This is my plan this year. Last year I fished them slow along side the Gantarel and they were awful performers with that slow roll and pause retrieve I use on the Gantarels. Only later did i hear about burn and pausing the bait.

I need to go back to trying Vatalions from the kayak this spring. I'd never quite unlocked this bait since I asked the question, but I have a bunch of weed beds where I might burn a Bucca Bull Shad or traditional lipless overhead. Sounds like this bait (with possibly more pronounced stops) could be a good producer in the same spots.

If you pause the Vatallion over a weed bed, it will fall right into it. Don't over think it with this bait. I've had great success fishing it on a straight retrieve.

I am starting to understand the appeal of this bait. At 1st I thought it was a worse Gantarel because when fished the same it performed much worse. It just didn't get the bites. I was slow rolling and pausing in early spring with the bait like I fish the Ganatel but these work better with a burn and pause retrieve. I was burning and pausing over weeds and getting bit like crazy with the bait during a rainstorm. It's an aggressive bite bait vs the seductive allure of the Gantarel.

I'll have to do that with one I have that has lost the diving fins. With the fins it would dive too deep to burn over my grass. I was going to give it new fins but I'll leave them off.
