Carp Fly Rod
Carp Fly Rod
I am looking into getting a slightly heavier carp rod. I am currently using a Ross Flystik 6 wt. I was thinking a 7 wt. Either a TFO BVK, St Croix Avid, Scott A4, or a G Loomis Shorestalker. But I am open to any other suggestions. Any Info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Well I'm not sure if a 7wt. would be too light... I'm new to the sport and have never targeted them on the fly yet. My buddy always suggests a 9' 9wt - he just ordered the Zenith.

A 9wt i think would be to heavy, unless you are on Lake Michigan chasing giants. I have caught many 30 plus inch fish on my 6 wt, i just need to go a little heavier so that they can not run into the weeds on me.

Re: Carp Fly Rod
No offense directed towards your friend, but a 9' 9Wt. is a LOT more rod than you need. A good 7wt. will do you, and you can always over-line by a size if you feel the need.
Re: Carp Fly Rod
Every situation is different. In a relatively featureless lake you have plenty of room to let the fish run. In moving water with significant current and obstructions, the tables are turned.

A 7 weight should cover it...
