A unique opportunity what would you change.
My father is a higher up at a major University. He approached me with a question i thought was best brought to the masses of fisherman here. The Dean of the engineering school is looking for things in fishing that you would as a fisherman would like changed or improved. I will send suggestions to them. Items sent in will be looked at by all the students as well as staff.
So suggest things or problems with anything in fishing that you would like Engineers to look at or re desighn Anything from LEDs for bait/lures to reels, rods, electronics.
I will do my best to keep everyone updated on what they choose and how they look at changing it.
Joe

This is an easy one. The world needs a low profile foot pedal for a cable steer trolling motor. The current ones from Minn Kota and Motor guide are so tall, the boat manufactures have to put holes in the front decks to accommodate them.

Water proof solar film that can be used in boat construction to keep everything fully charged.

This isn't a huge deal but when loading new line on a reel:
Something to make attaching line to a reel spool easier. Design a method where tying a knot wouldn't be necessary.

That's easy! It's called a ported spool.. Now go get the drill out!USA-RET wrote:This isn't a huge deal but when loading new line on a reel:

Deep cycle batteries that weigh 25 pounds and hold a charge for a week. Wireless transducers for Lowrance and Hummingbird. A crankbait that dives to 50 feet on a normal cast and does not kill your arms on the retreive.

225 hp outboard that uses zero gas
stress-what happens between fishing trips
Re: A unique opportunity what would you change.
A new levelwind system?
Seriously, a reel that casts like a spin reel and winds like a baitcaster...
Like a modern Alvey reel.

A wakebait with a weight transfer system for long cast that I can burn back to the boat.

I agree, those batteries are heavy... and they never stay charged for long.njbasscat wrote:Deep cycle batteries that weigh 25 pounds and hold a charge for a week. That's a great idea!mhood wrote:Water proof solar film that can be used in boat construction to keep everything fully charged.

A baitcast reel design that allows for swapping of the handle to either side.
Re: A unique opportunity what would you change.
A low profile that's full submersible in the California surf. Even when a wave hits your knee, bounces up and splashes on the reel, you have to deal with the crunches from sand grains inside the gears.
Re: A unique opportunity what would you change.
That's the one they should pick!! I'm serious, what about an hydrogen engine that would pump the hydrogen out of lake water? (here the price of gas is about 4 time more expensive then you guys)ecu daniel 14 wrote:225 hp outboard that uses zero gas
Or bait with a transducer that makes it visible on your depthfinder and that would show how deep it's running and how much water left underneath.
A baitcaster that would cross wound the line on the spool to avoid dig in with braid...
a rod with adjustable flexibility with like a cable inside that could be tighten or loosen near the grip.
A boat trailer with like a hard lid on it that would open for launching the boat but then close when on the road. Really like a tackle box that can be opened and closed. I'm so tired of having to wear my rain gear when it's not raining just because the carpet and seats are wet. Instead of those useless "boat cover" that are just a tarp really, I would prefer a hard shell permanent on the trailer that would open and close.
A kind of new soft plastic that heals itself. I know that have leather couch that can do that, why not plastic? you know how the nose get torn up by the hook, so we could just leave it on the deck and after a couple hours it's good as new!
A depthfinder that could hear a fish heart beat and locate it more accuratly.
A proximity sensor on deep running baits so we would know shorte bites even underwater and not just topwater/wake baits.

As a kayak fishermen I'd love to see the wireless transducer come to life. Or a wireless camera system that can be attached to a line, lure, or downrigger.
