Are Trokar's worth the money?
Are Trokar's worth the money?
So i've been contemplating trying them out and just wondered everyone elses opinion. I currently use both gamakatsu and owner hooks, mostly 2/0 and 3/0 offset worm hooks. Are the Trokars really that great? That much of an improvement to warrant the price?
Re: Are Trokar's worth the money?
They're sharp, but I don't think they worth the price difference over the Gamas I use most of the time or the Owners I've used. If they cost about the same as Gama/Owner equivalent hooks or even 25-50 cents more, I'd consider getting more of them, but they're twice the price(excluding swimbait & flipping hooks) if not more & they're nowhere near twice the hook IMHO.

Hook points are super sharp until they roll
This happened on all of my komanchi spinnerbaits(Trokar hooks)
They are now relegated to the tackle junk draw.
This particular Trokar hook only lasted one fish

Trokar hooks are very nice. From my experiences with them, I have to say that I have no complaints about them. They are extremely sharp and durable. Getting them to stick the bass on a hook set is a breeze. I really like them, but they still do perform very similar to other hooks out there such as Gamakatsu and Owner. Give them a try, and if you don't like them, you know that you can always go back to using Gamas or Owners.

Thanks for the info guys, sounds like the overall consensus is they aren't justifiably better than what i'm using!

I'm kinda on the fence about them. The price is a killer.

I also jumped on the bandwagon when they first came out. But after numerous hook points rolling on me I have given up. Use Hayabusa now. Every bit as sharp as the Trokars.

That is not a Trokar hook on that bait.

From their own website,
It's easy to re-tune the leader wire; just twist it back into place... Extremely flexible and durable. With its life like head design, 3D eyes, polished nickel, gold and pad printed blades, pro skirts, ball bearing swivel, brass beads, super flexible frame, Lazer TroKar "Surgically Sharpened Technology" hooks, the Doctor Spinnerbait is #1 for fishing through grass, heavy cover, boulders, stumps, brush; slow rolling or burning. It will always stay balanced and tuned to fall vertically without spiraling and tangling your line.

I really liked Trokars at first till all the points rolled on me. It didn't take much, maybe 2-3 small fish and the hooks I had were cashed.

Same here, I tried some of their flipping hooks right when they came out and the first fish rolled the point. Didn't buy anymore for a few years, saw they had lowered the price so I picked up another pack of EWG style hooks and the same thing, two fish, rolled point.
They aren't near the hooks that Owner or Gamakatsu are IMHO.

Re: Are Trokar's worth the money?
Yes. That's the only time the points have ever rolled on me...with komanchi spinners because of their basic collapsing design (IMO) and war eagle spinners, in one case. I would still get the war eagle model. I would bet other hooks would also dull very quickly with the Komanchi model.BucketHunter wrote:that is absolutely unequivocally a trokar hook.
Granted, I have a bias...they are all I use for the ikas and fat impacts I fish 70 percent of the time...but I can say I have not had a point roll with soft baits and Trokar hooks, they are the most effective and most economical rigging I know for those two baits (at least as I rig them) and they sure seem to set more significantly with less effort than the various jig hooks, etc I also used this season.
I think they are great and worth the money.
