Shipping rods

Post by bassninja » Tue Feb 05, 2013 8:44 am

How much does it cost you to ship rods in rod tubes within the continental US? I shipped a rod through UPS last night and the standard rate was $31 and some change and an additional $2 for insurance. The original quote she gave me was $38 total but I was like... :-s She said the packaging fee is around $5. I said, what happens if I put the rod in the tube myself? She said then they would wave the packaging fee... errr really? Anyway, has anyone shipped through other places like FedEx or the USPS? What's the standard rate with them?

I've only ever shipped one rod (my purple dragon :( ) and I used USPS. I remember it being fairly reasonable but that was a little while ago. I'm sure someone who's done it recently will chime in.

For me, USPS was not helpful in collecting insurance damage. I will never use them again and will gladly pay a little more for UPS.

I find FedEx to have the best rates. The shipping cost will vary depending on where you are shipping the rod to. I just shipped six rods Fedex ground and they ranged from $20.00 to $28.00 including insurance.

Next time I will have to consider using Fedex or USPS before UPS.

I recently shipped 3 rods via USPS priority mail to the mid West and East coast. Prices ranged between 16 and 19 dollars including tracking and insurance.

I have shipped rods via USPS for under $20 and other times have been quoted a price of up to $100 which is insane. It seems like it depends the person behind the counter when dealing with USPS. Has this happened to anyone else. I ship all of my reels using USPS as they have the best rates.
