Great post. Thanks for sharing!
Re: When bass is hooked deep in throat
This is something that I'll definitely try but looks like may need a bit of practice to preform effectively. Thx for posting

Best link that I have seen on the technique. Thanks. I have used it a limited number of times, mostly on big redfish.

Yeah I loved it when I found through a FB friend who posted it. Always felt bad when it got hooked deep.

Very nice indeed...!
Re: When bass is hooked deep in throat
Thanks for sharing. I'll have to give that a try.
The way I usually do it is with a LONG wire cutter. I have a wire cutter on the boat made by Snap-On with like 10" reach or so. I pull the bait off the hook, expose as much of the hook shank as I can by pulling on the line a bit and then snip it off. If I can see the barb, I'll snip that off and then roll the hook out.
Keep 'em alive!

This guide has been around quite a while and I've only had limited success with it. The best thing you can do is pay attention to your line and try to keep gut hooking to a minimum to begin with. I'm to the point now that I almost never have this happen.

Great post. That's way tackle tour is such a great site. Catch and release does goes along way to ensure future fishing.

I have a Bill Dance hook remover never used it but if I had to I really wouldn't know the correct way I think I would still kill the fish can somebody explain it to me please.
Re: When bass is hooked deep in throat
I've been going in through the last gill with cool wet needlenose pliers for twenty years. You will never lose a fish if you are gentle and do it quickly. Keep the fish close to the water if possible. It will probably be bleeding. The dropshot and wacky rig with a small hook kill way too many fish and should be illegal if you don't have the common sense to figure this hook removal technique out. Leaving a hook in the mouth rarely turns out well for the fish.

i am getting a 404 error on original link

Must be some serious plagiarism going on, that page is off-line and so is several other website pages that had the same article . However, the link below has a pdf that is the same article as the original link and includes the helpful pictures too.Seph wrote:i am getting a 404 error on original link
