You get a single choice of rod/reel for the rest of your life.
What is it? And why? Is it versatility? Prestige? Aesthetics? Nostalgia?

Re: Highlander
Damn, this is tough. As a big bait fisherman it boils down to two set ups, the Dobyns 795ML and the 867 in the finals. Both paired with a Pluton and 80# braid. As much as I love the 867, I'd have to say the 795 based solely on how versatile it is with the baits I fish most often. When I think about what baits I use the most that I can/can't throw on either rig the 795 is the clear winner. Only baits I can't throw on the 795 are the Deps 250 and Mattlures 10" Deadtwitch. Pluton is the reel cause, well, it's just a badass little reel and I LOVE them.
Re: Highlander
with all respect to current innovations in reels, I would go with the two tone Zebco Abu Cardinal 4 spinning reel, without any qualms or reservations. DECADES of trouble-free usage has given them a clear spot at the head of the class. definitely my go to reel. rod is a bit harder. maybe a shimano AERO AMG66 because it covers so many bases FOR ME. WOW! how do you pick one rod?! many, many great rods. are we spoiled or what!
