Essential Fishing Accessories

Post by hawkoath » Mon Jun 08, 2015 4:33 pm

Hi Guys,

I was wondering what you would consider essential accessories that you use on a frequent basis both on the water and off (for preparation). My own list off the top of my head would include:

1. Rod Sleeves
2. Reel Covers
3. Line Conditioner
4. Pliers
5. Nail Clipper
6. Hook Sharpener
7. Reel Cleaner
8. Reel Grease
9. Reel Oil

Having fun, of course, but I make a point of brining enough line to respool if necessary and the often overlooked half roll of toilet paper, just in case. Towel for fish slime, bottle of water is a good idea, and cell phone for emergency. I also keep a small medical kit I hope to never use and a small plastic bag I can keep my trash, wasted plastics, etc in to take home and dispose of properly.

Most trips down here involve a snake bite kit in the pack.

Spare prop if you own a boat. I had a couple of trips ruined because I slung a blade and didn't have a spare. I learned my lesson and always carry one now. Also, a decent pair of needle nose pliers is a must.

  • a pair of diagonals (to cut off the tip of a hook that was pushed back out after being embedded in your hand)
  • a boat tow rope, either to tow someone else in or to be towed
  • a space blanket, in case your motor dies and you have to sleep out in the cold overnight
  • a bright flashlight with an emergency strobe function
  • an oar

After a visit to the ER a couple of days ago with a Daichi Death Trap treble sunk deep into the bone from trying to get out my fav Lucky Craft crankbait out of its mouth:

BOGA GRIP

FISHERMANS PLIERS.

I've gotten by with neither grip or pliers for 60 years. Guess it's time because I must be getting SLOW to get my fingers out of the way!
