What buzz toad setup(s) are you running?
I throw my ribbits on a 7'0 M regular Daiwa Cronos with either my sv105 7.2 with r+ spring or my T3 MX 8.1 with rcs 1016 spool. I usually run 10lb yozuri hybrid or 8lb big game. Works pretty well for me. One of my favorite ways to fish.

Seems light to me. 8-10lb test is just asking for heart break

I use old scorpion reel 4x4 with V2 braid 40lb and new curado rod.. 7'2" rod that has plenty of backbone
that's what I've been using to swim jig with as well.
Of late, i've been shifting to the 7'1" Valkyrie rod though..

I just use my frog rod. Personally, I wouldn't go lighter than a MH/30# braid. Whatever works best for you, though. There is no right answer. The give in that lighter blank may be helping you stay hooked up even if you don't get a solid hook set.
This is the way.

Both Big Game and YZH are very thick for their (low) rating, but it's still playing with fire running 12-14lb line unless you are only throwing them on the edges of cover.
I have a few Horny Toads in my "hike-in" pond box and I fish them on 11lb mono. It's not ideal or even reasonable, but in open water I still get good enough hooksets with non-superline Gammie EWG hooks to keep carrying them.
When I throw them "for real" I use a MB Hyuga 72H, a XH/M, with 40lb PP braid. I have to remove dug-in line sometimes when I hook into a good one, but for the other stuff I use the reel for I want a lighter line so it's worth it to me.

Tht depends if you're in Ohio or Florida. 6-7# is likely the biggest fish you will see up North, but 50# braid is must around slop like dollar pads, hydrilla and cattails. Of course, the hookset ability with a M power rod and 10# line is questionable with a frog of any kind.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
