Winter is coming

Post by BRONZEBACK32 » Mon Oct 21, 2019 12:18 am

I hate winter....

But at least I can ice fish right LOL.

Who else is already getting there gear out for hard water season?

Now if I could just get Gloomis/Shimano to make me a NRX ice rod that would be fantastic, a NRX 311 SJR and a 312 SJR please. :big grin:

I hate winter too. But I don't love ice fishing neither if small perches and roaches are target fish. So I prefer to drive 3 hours with car to seatrout shores. There's seatrout season on for December and January, sometimes also February. Catches are not good, but there's a lot of room in shores. And view of open sea and snow on shore and sun is shining on freezing temperatures, that's beautifull. And when sea freezes, then it's two months offseason, and reel maintenance, and pike fishing from ice. It's lke that in southern Finland.

I look more forward to winter ice fishing. For one thing, I don't need to deal with people in their boat wakes, nor people with their erratic casting that crosses lines.

The only thing I really have to worry is snowmobile's that are speeding to close.
slip bobbing is the laziest way to fish

And Nordic Scaters, that cut line if laid on ice:

:D

Seriously, that has happened to me once.

Surface temp was 73 degrees at Lake Perris in SoCAl yesterday! We have officially denied winter access to our area.

^ That's water temperature that it should be. If it's too hot for fishing, then take a quick bath, then it's OK again. Obviously somebody here in Finland has too hot even on winter because they take baths especially on winter.

Surface temperature 43℉ according to Hummingbird in a small lake in southern Finland. It's about a month when lakes get frozen.

I did take a swim yesterday. I also took my shirt off to get some sun while I was fishing, but I think it was scaring the fish. I never did get bit until I put it back on!

Love the cold weather, some of the best fishing of the year. We don’t have ice and water temps rarely get below 50. Can’t wait for a 26 degree night to go chase some monster trout.

We are still in the mid-60's here in GA.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
