Tackle Storage - In house VS garage

Post by RMCatchNrelease » Mon Dec 04, 2023 6:08 am

Hey there!

I'm looking to free up closet space and move things to the garage. New truck doesn't fit so I have new space.

That said, I'm afraid of storing expensive had baits, plastics, rods, and reels in there year round.

I'm in CO and see both -5 and 100+ through the year.

Any issues I would have? Would you be hesitant? What would I want to not store out there?

Thank you!

In house 100%

I had some baits get ruined here in Florida
Still all my rods are in the house and my baits and my stashes of baits

I‘m trying to get all my soft lures out of the home / living areas into the garage, as I get increasingly suspicious about all the plasticizers that might out-gas and the artificial scents. Or store them in air tight boxes. Maybe a thing you might want to consider, as for fishing goods I guess there’s even less toxin regulation than there are anyways for household items. Buying all the foods organic and then breathing plastics all day doesn’t feel right to me.
Rods, reels, hard baits, hooks and lines I tend to keep in home to protect them from said temperatures and also trapping moisture, from the soft baits I want to be protected :D

For me the expensive stuff goes in the house, cheap stuff to the garage

In the house, by default. (No garage.)

I'd keep it inside anyway. I'm stupidly OCD about the care and condition of my stuff. Rods on a rack, reels in a display case.

Unless you can get your garage to stay around 72 degrees all year round--I would say to keep them inside.

All my stuff stays inside a closet in my house--it doesn't get stored in the garage except for maybe a day or two when I'm unloading and coming back from a fishing trip.

My rods and reels are stored in a closet inside the house. Lures and spare braided line in the garage.

Rods and reels stay in the garage on the boat 98% of the time.

Lures, lines related stuff, in the house 98% of the time.

Live on Texas Gulf Coast, everything is in the garage. Yep, even Deps and MegaBass baits. Just came through the hottest Summer ever here. No issues.
