Good Crank Bait Rod?

I'm looking into buying a crank bait rod. Anyone here have any suggestions on what brand? Also, what is the difference with the glass crank bait rods?

1st try to narrow it down.
Where are you fishing, what depth CB do you plan on using with the rod, what type of CB, are there weeds where you are, whats the cover and structure of where you fish, what's your price range?

My price range is around $250. Where I fish there are some weeds. I plan to use this rod for jerkbaits, topwater, medium CB divers, and lipless CB's.

Do you have any length preferences or limits? I think a 7' rod would probably be your best bet for fishing jerks along with cranks and lipless cranks.

If you'll be fishing in weeds, I'd go with a graphite rod. It will let you better feel when your bait is fouled so you can rip it loose. The Dobyns 705CB is probably a rod you should look at. It is also available in the 705CB Glass (and 705CBMF Glass) versions if you'd prefer a glass rod. Now days, I don't think the action of graphite rods is inferior to that of glass for crankbaits. The technology has come quite a long way to make some nice moderate action graphite rods, but some still prefer glass for various reasons.

Cant think of a better rod than the G. Loomis Bronzeback-814CB

Like BB144 said graphite is much better around weeds then glass.
Sometimes I like a shorter for TW and JB in that case you may want to check out the Dobyns 684CB, 685CB Rods.

My friend, you might have just started a war, thems fightin words! In all fairness of everyones opinion only you can decide. After years of using glass ,graphite and composites there is still no end all be all for me. For CB's that create a lot of drag(such as deep divers) my vote is glass. For rico's, splash-it's and gunfish I gotta go with graphite. I prefer composites for everything else in between.

I use the CBR843 wouldn't have it any other way.I throw med , small ,and lipless crankbaits.

That's a wide range of applications. I would go with a Powell Max 706CB or Powell Endurance 726CB. I just got a Powell Endurance 695 and i think it is a hair too light for some heavier topwater, like a super spook. Doable though.

Glass rods, from my experience are more parabolic and forgiving. A little less sensitive and a bit heavier than graphite.

If you are going the Loomis route, an 845 should do the trick. For the techniques you mention, i would def stay with a 4-6 power rod, depending on company.

i would go with glass, the two best crankers in the game kvd and fritts both use glass, coincidence? i think not.

Im just pickin at ya bud. If you can purchase a glass and a graphite rod and see which you prefer. For what you have listed I would probably choose graphite, especially for topwaters and jerkbaits.

I have the7' powell 704cb its the best rod I ever used for ripping traps out of the grass! I also use it for square bills and small cranks. I hate it for topwater to soft for spooks well for me anyway. I have an old American rodsmith David Fritts series cb rod 7'glass super heavy but great deep water cranking rod. Im actually in the market myself for a replacement something lighter. good luck
