I weighed what I have in my basement right now:

CASTING:
Abu Garcia Veritas, 7'6" MH-F VRC76-6: 5.05oz
Abu Garcia Veritas, 7'0" MH-F VRC70-6: 4.75oz
Abu Garcia Verdict, 7'3" MH-F VCC73-6: 4.75oz
Kistler Helium II LTX, 7'6" Heavy Telescopic. He2HC76T*: 6.65oz (has a built-in counterweight, this model also has the Recoil guides, 2009 edition)
Kistler Magnesium, 7'0" Heavy "Jig-n-Toad" MgJTH70: 4.60oz (Noted that this rod was very tip-heavy on the scale!)
Kistler Micro-Magnesium, 7'0" Med-Heavy McMag70MHC: 4.50oz (Noted that this rod was very tip-heavy on the scale!)
Rapala R-Type, 7'2" MH-XF: 5.20oz (has a built-in counterweight)

SPINNING:
Kistler Magnesium, 6'9" "Finesse Special" MGFS69S: 5.15oz. (Noted that this rod was very tip-heavy on the scale, but I LOVE the action of this one!).
Quantum Elite 2-pc spinning, 6'6" medium power: 5.15oz. (This is my department-store camping rod when I have the kids around LOL).

Rod weights are great to know in advance, but balance is far more important as is sensitivity and crispness(the spring-like action a high modulus gives when casting). The same size, power and action rod as the NRX 822 spinning can be built lighter and better for about $150 plus time yourself or labor for someone else. They are way out of the ballpark on price. No bass rod is worth $500 period. I'll bet those blanks are $100 to make or less and the craftsmanship seems to be done by complete amateurs.

since it's related, i just thought i'd share a quick tip here on how you can quickly and easily check the accuracy of your scale for weighing rods. a post-1964 U.S. quarter weighs exactly .20 ounces. put 5 quarters on your scale and it should read 1.00 ounce, 6 quarters should read 1.20 ounces, etc.

the reported recon weights are truly amazing. to put it in context, they're even lighter than the equivalent length, power and action of the nano resin rods (st. croix legend series, g.loomis NRX), rods that cost two to two-and-a-half times as much. so far, the only rods that are lighter than the recons are the $350 shimano cumulus.
