recommendation for a spinning rod

Post by jcat » Thu Mar 03, 2011 3:02 pm

I am looking for a spinning rod to handle lures from 1/8 to1/2 oz.lures. Plan to use it for jigs, texas rig plastics, and deep little N type cranks.
I have approximately 170.00 to spend. Recommendations appreciated. Thanks

I'd probably grab the Powell 733 MHEF. I love my 732 MLEF, and this looks to be their closest current rod.

Good call, I forgot about those. Add both of these to my previous post.

Powell, Dobyns Savvy, Shimano Crucial, Falcon Cara; all great rods in or near your price range.

A 7' Medium powered, Fast action rod should handle what you need it to.

Though I have not used it I have held it and I would suggest the Endurance 6103. 6'10" 3 Power Ex-Fast Action. I would say that would be right up your alley and right at the cusp of your price range. My second choice is a 732.

What about a GLoomis sjr783imx. You can find some very good used ones at American Legacy fishing for the price range you are in. They are good guys and fishermen who can help you with your questions.
