Heavy rod debate
Heavy rod debate
Hey guys, the tackle monkey is on my back again and I am looking at 3 rod models and choosing only 1, I am hoping to hear some feedback on them. I will be using the rod for frogs, jigs, plastics in heavy cover, and possibly even heavy cover spinnerbaits/swimjigs.
The three are:
Daiwa Zillion 6'9" medium-heavy, x-fast
Daiwa Zillion 7' medium-heavy, fast
Loomis IMX 844 (7', fast)
I am looking to see which model you would say is the best balanced (I am mounting my revo stx on it).
Any feedback on them is greatly appreciated.

The 7' Zillion is a pretty stout stick.

+1 for the Loomis 844 IMX. If I could only have 1 rod this would be it. A great all around rod.

Re: Heavy rod debate
i know that i said the 844 is a classic, which it is, but i would suggest that you consider the phenix rod line. their 7 foot heavy or extra heavy m;ay fit your needs. i beieve the 7 footer got an editors choice a while back.
Re: Heavy rod debate
X2 on the 844!
I own all 3 rods, the Zillions are stout compared to the Loomis.
Remove the forgrip of the 844 for better balance and blank accessibility. It's easy to do.

Thanks for the responses.
I am down to the 7 foot loomis and zillion now.
I am using this rod to replace my 6'6" heavy avid, i find it to be unbalanced even for 6'6" and think i am loosing sensitivity with the x-heavy feel of the st.croix heavy blank.
I can find the zillion for 180 and the loomis for 310. Is the loomis THAT much better to justify the price?

Re: Heavy rod debate
Personally, I'd go with the Loomis then the Zillion. That price seems high for the MBR844 IMX as listed retail is $285 on the GLoomis site.cmc wrote:Thanks for the responses.

Re: Heavy rod debate
if you are seeing the loomis for $310 it is probably the glx. now THAT is really, really a classic rod!!! i would choose that over the zillion any day.cmc wrote:Thanks for the responses.

Re: Heavy rod debate
Unfortunately, the IMX Loomis is $320 Canadian up here, which makes no sense considering we are above parity compared to the US dollar...but Loomis (and most every other company) apparently doesnt pay attention to exchange rates.
So seeing the IMX Loomis is $320 and the Zillion is $175, which is the better deal for a heavy cover rod ?

Thanks for the input guys,
Got the 7' MH zillion. A really nice rod, and saved 100 bucks at the same time.
