Who uses balancing weights?
Who uses balancing weights?
So who adds balancing weights to your rods?
I find that even with the best rods, it's still slightly tip heavy. Ever since I handled a Kistler Helium LTX 7' Heavy with custom mounted Z-Bone Balancing weight kits, I'm hooked. The rod tip literally floats and you could fine tune the balance weights depending on the reel and set up.

I'd guess that close to 50% of the customs I build wind up with a balancing kit.

I balance all my spinning rods. I haven't done it with my baitcasters. It does make a huge difference.

Re: Who uses balancing weights?
if a rod I have needs it, I do it!
Some of my spinning rods have custom made Fugi balancers.
I'd MUCH rather fish with a "balanced" 7oz rod, than an "unbalanced" 4 oz rod!

Re: Who uses balancing weights?
I wish the industry standard was to produce rods with balancing kits.
Re: Who uses balancing weights?
At Zombie, our rods are all factory balanced. Some look at our weight specs on paper and think our rods are heavy, but everyone who picks one up says they can't believe how light they are. Just pick up a 4' 2X4 by the very end and a 5' 2X4 in the middle... the 5' one will feel lighter even though it's 25% heavier

I tried it with an 806 Lamiglas FLipping stick a few years back. I hated it. It was a tip heavy rod, but my arm was more fatigued by the added weight to balance it.

Re: Who uses balancing weights?
Very well said, alot of people buy from stats and not actually holding alot of different rods. Many anglers suffer from arm, wrist, elbow problems. Switch to a perfectly balanced rod and watch how fast these conditions cure themselves. Adding weights are just asking for more issues as your body takes the punishment for it. Do your research and find perfect balanced rods. I used to fish alot of 6'6" rods due to injuries, now I have moved back to 7', 7'3" rods and all Dobyns.OhioChamp183 wrote:

Re: Who uses balancing weights?
why aren't more manufacturers providing the option to balance the rods??
I also don't buy that some people say that the reel would balance out the rod... you're just 'shifting' the balance point, but you'll never achieve balance right where the reel sit unless that's the balancing point... it's basic physics..

Re: Who uses balancing weights?
The problem lies with the definition of balance.
It is many different things to many different people.
I also think that the guys fishing heavy gear talk about it more. When you're talking about 3 and 4 ounce rods, balance becomes less of an issue. But it still all boils down to what each individual considers balanced.

Re: Who uses balancing weights?
do you guys consider the load when referring to balance? a rod that's balanced with just the rod and reel could behave differently once a lure/jig's been tied on

Re: Who uses balancing weights?
So, if you're building a rod, and want some counterbalance at the butt, do you use 'off the shelf' kits or something custom?

really
yea, but once that lure is thrown, the load is gone..........isn't it
