The 704cb is my squarebill rod. It would work well for small to medium topwater baits also.

I don't have the 704CB, but a I've held one of my buddie's 704CBs. I was looking for a an all around crank rod that could possibly double over as a topwater rod. I wisely chose the 706CB and couldn't be happier. I personally think the 706CB is one the best all around crankbait rods out there! My 2 cents.

Re: Powell 704CB or 706CB ?
I own a 704cb and really love this rod for small-medium size crankbaits. I fish the mississippi river so i normally dont crank much deeper than 15 ft of water so it works really well for what I do. I like the graphite just for the sensitivity but since it is only a 4 power cranking stick it still has the play in the rod for when the fish makes those runs at the boat. I have not used it for squarebills but i would think it should do fine with them as long as you're not in a lot of cover. If you are in a lot of cover I would opt for the 706 cb. The 706cb would also handle the larger size crankbaits a bit better but you cant really go wrong either way. Hope this helps!

Go with the 706... I found it to be a great all purpose cranking and reaction bait rod.

I own both of these rods and I think you ought to go with the 706. I think the 704 is a little bit too soft. Your peference. Both rods are really good rod.
Re: Powell 704CB or 706CB ?
Been thinking about the 706 for the same reason

A nice middle ground might be the Endurance 695? I own and love fishing that rod. I crank smaller square bills for LMB's in the delta with 15 pound FC and rip in reservoirs for spots with 8 pound FC in lakes. real nice.

Re: Powell 704CB or 706CB ?
They have short handles.....too short for me crankbaits wise, but the handle length makes working jerkbaits and topwaters easy. The 706 was a nice rod but i bought it sight unseen and sold it quickly, it just wasnt what i was looking for
Re: Powell 704CB or 706CB ?
I looked at that but i have the Powell Squarebill Rod which is a 6 ft 9 jus is heavier ( line is 12-25 ) just think i wanna try a 7 footer is all , How is that Rod for you fighting the fish ? load up good on the tip with enough backbone to fight the Fish ? an lift em into the Boat ?
Re: Powell 704CB or 706CB ?
I have both and I prefer using the 706CB for squarebills and reactionbaits too.
