DX 784 ML vs DX 745
DX 784 ML vs DX 745
Looking to pick up another Dobyns. Currently have the DX 795 Flip. Like the length of this rod but would like one step down in power for pitching texas rigs and jigs (1/4 oz - 3/4 oz). Would also like to use for hollow body frogs. The rod will be spooled with braid exclusively for use in lily pads. Like a little bit of a tip and of course need the backbone to get them out. Looking at either the DX 784 or DX 745. Thanks for your help.
Re: DX 784 ML vs DX 745
I have all three rods mentioned. A few things to mention.
The DX795 Flip is more powerful than other Dobyns 5 power rods (735, 765 & DX745) that I've used. Going to the DX745 will be a step down in power.
The DX784 has a unique action in the Dobyns line up. If the DX745 is fast, then the DX784 is xfast. The DX784 will flex & build power quickly until about 1/3 of the way down the blank. After that, it seems to very gradually build power towards the butt. The DX745 will flex in the tip & continue to build power to the butt. Very similar to the DX744 action but more powerful.
The DX784 will handle the lures you listed great. The DX745 listed range is 3/8- 1 1/2oz. I've comfortably thrown/pitched down to a 5/16oz weight plus sweet beaver. If you are throwing 1/4oz plus plastic, it should work fine.
As you would expect, the DX745 is a more powerful stick than the DX784. I don't have any lily pads where I fish so I'm unsure of how much power you'll need.

One of those two would work the best if you prefer extra-fast or fast.Nitroman77 wrote:Id go with either the DX745 or the champ 735..
