My personal opinion - you don't need to spend $500 on a rod and or reel to get good sensativity. Your current setup is perfectly fine.

Otherwise you can try this:

Shimano Cumara 7'2" MH XFast
Curado 200E7 or Zillion 100SHA
30lbs braid for more sensativity. 50lbs braid if you are fishing around alot of rocks and structures.

This setup is great for football jigs in deep water

Here's my setup:

Dobyns DX784C ML
Daiwa Fuego
50lb braid w/ 15lb FC leader (The reel came off my pitching rod and I haven't decided if I want to keep the braid yet or not).

I actually don't fish FB jigs much, and this will be my all around jig rod later in the year. But this spring I have fished a FB jig a little in a local reservoir that has no weeds, only a dirt/clay bottom and the rod is great for fishing them. It casts a 1/2oz a LONG way and gives you plenty of power to set the hook on a long cast.

Switching rods is fine, but as others have implied, you would would get a much bigger bump in sensitivity switching to braid than you will see in switching the rod.

I just spooled up a new Steex 100 HSA and an NRX 873 CRR for this...I better like it. BTW, 17lb. Trilene 100%.

Sweet set-up. You know you're gonna love the rod - curious to hear what a Shimano man thinks about the steez :big grin: Let me know what you think after a little time with it!

I have a couple favorites of mine...

3/8 to 1/2 oz FB jigs in lighter cover -
NRX 893, Core 51MG7, 12lb FC

1/2 to 3/4 FB jigs in heavier cover -
NRX 873, Chronarch 101D7, 17lb FC

Speaking of NRX Bronzefly, have you fished the 854 vs the 873? Trying to decide which one to get for jigs up to 3/4 oz. in heavier weeds.

Yes - 873 without a doubt. It's more stout than the 854 and has the most backbone of any current NRX rod... that being said, i'm looking forward to some heavier powered models soon!

Here's what I'm using but trying to find another setup that's better balanced at the moment:

DX784ML
2010 Revo Premier
17lb Pline Halo

Like others have said, a switch to braid will bump up sensitivity tremendously. Any of the rods out there will do, really. If you really want more balanced, your best bet would be to go custom. Many people have said that Dobyns rods balance out very well. That isn't the case for my DX784 though. Out of the few Dobyns rods I have (765Flip, 806, 705CB, and a spinning rod), the DX784 is the most tip heavy rod. But it's also a 7'8" rod, so it would be hard to balance that rod out without sacrificing more weight.

If I were you, I'd try out braid first before you get into any other rods. I'm sure your Powell 705c is a great rod already.
