It usually costs me about $15-$18 in california
Re: shipping rod
yupp anywere from 15-30 bucks depending on the size you can also check ebay and just type in fishing rods and see how much they charge to ship if you look at several you will get a general idea.....
note: ebay people's are looking to make money so they might charge more for ship..... good luck on your quest

Re: shipping rod
Go to UPS's web site and calculate postage for various weights, zip codes, residential vs business etc.

Re: shipping rod
$25 - $32 is where the vast majority of my freight bills fall.
I ship around 50 custom rods annually. Insurance values from $300 to $1,500. Tubes up to their maximum length. Varying weights from 5 to 9 pounds. The charges almost always fall in the above range.

Re: shipping rod
Use the post office, they are cheaper
Re: shipping rod
Post Office. Priority mail. Till you put shipping, delivery conformation and insurance on the rod, you could be looking at $20.00 to $30.00 depending on the amount of insurance you need. Less if you only pay for shipping. Usally 2 to 3 days depending on how far it's going.
Re: shipping rod
I've had the worst luck shipping USPS. 3 out of 4 ended up being damaged....
Re: shipping rod
I've shipped about 15 rods using USPS. One was damaged. It was insured. Buyer provided pictures of damage of the shipping tube, shipping label and of the rod. Used the USPS on line form to report the damage. I received a check from the USPS for the insured price within ten days.
Have yet to figure out (without the exact zip code of the buyer) of what it costs to ship a rod via USPS. Shipped a rod to California for about $20. Shipped a rod to Michigan--same weight and length and it cost in the low $30. I live in the Midwest so makes no sense.

Re: shipping rod
Just shipped a broken rod back to the manufacturer Fedex ground for $11.00. I asked how much to ship a 7ft 2" heavy guage PVC tube cross country and was told $20 before insurance. Sounds like they all ship rods in the $20 to $30 range.
Re: shipping rod
I agree that USPS is cheaper. I have shipping dozens of rods and have not had one issue yet.

Re: shipping rod
Usually runs me about 20 bucks with fedex. I always ship in a pvc tube and have never had a problem.
Re: shipping rod
Fed Ex (ground) is running me about $18.xx, w/o insurance, when shipping in a 7 1/2", 2" diameter PVC tube.
