Punch/Flip Rods

Post by ah_long » Tue May 24, 2011 8:34 am

I just got these two rods and trying to decide which one to keep. I know the best way is to fish it but the bass opener is not until another month and there's not much vegetation to punch.

Rod would mainly be used for heavy flipping and punching.

So I'm relying on you guys to help me out and decide which one to sell

FSR904X (IMX)
7'6" (Tele)
12-25
1/4-1
Mod-Fast
Heavy

BCFR894 MossyBack
7'5"
17-25
1/4-1
Fast
Heavy

I like fast and xfast tapers for punching/flippin. Moderfast just doesn't have enough back bone for me when setting the hook on those lunkers in thick vegetation. My vote goes to Mossyback!

Braid or mono/floro? BCFR894 MossyBack if using braid, FSR904X (IMX) if using mono/floro.

definitely braid

any reason to go for IMX if using mono or floro? mod fast tip to protect the line?

Actually I wrote that up wrong ](*,) , if using braid I'd go with a moderate/fast and with mono/floro I'd go with the fast. Sorry... Since braid has minimal stretch I like a little slower rod, better fighting fish/a little better shock absorption.

I see.

Thanks, didn't think of it that way. But the fact that the IMX is tele won't make a difference?
