Another Dobyns thread, my 704C underpowered?

Post by bassninja » Sat Aug 20, 2011 8:13 am

I just picked up a Dobyns Champion 704C. It's rated as heavy action but the blank diameter is kind of on the thin side for a heavy action rod. I compared it to a medium-heavy Savvy 703C and it's noticeably smaller in diameter, and it's probably the same size diameter as my DX703C. I put the 704C on my digi scale it comes in at 124.3 grams or 4.38 oz. Anyone who has a Champion 704C, can you confirm if it's really a Heavy action rod or did I get a mis-labeled Champion 703C? The blank diameter has me doubting the actual strength of this rod.

I don't think you have a problem. The Champion line of rods are much smaller diameter blanks than the same rod in the Savvy, and lighter too.
