Drop shot rods
Drop shot rods
Why do some drop shot rods have mod-fast tips I though fast or extra fast would be the best?
Re: Drop shot rods
To protect light line.
Re: Drop shot rods
That would be my guess also. Maybe also to help protect light wire hooks if using braid?ww2farmer wrote:To protect light line.
I prefer a faster action but it's all relative to the rod(s) you're referring to. Just like one manufacturer's M may be another's MH, action ratings on rods are going to vary from one brand/model to another.
Re: Drop shot rods
x2 A hookset for drop-shotting is usually a sweep set...not a bone jarring one. A mod/fast rod will load slower creating less shock on the line and knot. Shallow, close range drop-shotting or braid users can benefit from a slower rod.ww2farmer wrote:To protect light line.
Re: Drop shot rods
They are spongy rods because you just reach for the sky and reel to set the hook.Light line, tiny hooks = soft rod.it all has to match. Not to mention when you get them near the boat(esp.smallmouth) they are easier to play with a softer rod.A hard charge near the boat with light wire hook, and light line demands a soft rod.

Yes, some rod manufacturers recommended mod-fast rods. They would tend to be softer. It might help hold the smaller hooks in the fishes' mouth.

Braid, plain and simple, if you use mono you will do better with a fast action rod.
