Z bone rear cork fell off in hand
Z bone rear cork fell off in hand
Just got a zbone le and notice there is a gap between the trim ring and cork butt piece. Turns out the butt piece was not epoxied on as it just came right off. Kinda hard to believe for a $400 rod?

the 1 and only kistler I own is the only rod that I ever had that happen to.

crap happens.
Call kistler and go from there. Zbones build quality is outstanding!

How many NRXs do you/have you owned and what were the problems you had?SkeeterZX22v wrote:Yeah, kinda like those NRX rods.jlb wrote:Just got a zbone le and notice there is a gap between the trim ring and cork butt piece. Mama had a Kistler and the head popped off!
I'd give them a pass. One of my favorite rods is still my Kistler HE LTA.

No adhesive at all?!jlb wrote: Just got a zbone le and notice there is a gap between the trim ring and cork butt piece. Turns out the butt piece was not epoxied on as it just came right off.
Obvious warranty claim there.
Easy fix if you cared to do it yourself.
I've never torn apart a Kistler so I haven't examied their build construction. I've torn apart a fair number of other manufacturers rods and one thing I see consistently is that the blank is not prepped at all to receive handle components. Blanks should be clean and scuffed to promote good adhesion. It typically doesn't make a big difference when it comes to full grips, but with a small section of split grip as we have here... Not only do you need adhesive, you need to make sure you prep the blank.

I'd suggest fixing it yourself. Very easy to do but before doing so call kistler and email them that pic. When I deal with kistler I talk to lance he's a great guy.
See if they will throw you a discount on your next purchase. I'd rather do that than deal with all the shipping back and fourth and time lost. Plus their awesome rods and makes it easier for a 2nd purchase.

Every mfg has a mistake slip through every now & then. Stuff happens. It's the recovery that matters now.

I love my Argons but the cork is just not up to par.
Re: Z bone rear cork fell off in hand
thats exactly what happened to my kistler. mine did have a small amount of epoxy though.
I stripped one kistler and it was extremely easy to get the cork off. None of the cork had bonded to the rod at all, just looked like a clear epoxy coat w/ very small dots of cork in spots.Mattman wrote:[I've never torn apart a Kistler so I haven't examied their build construction.
