Travel Rod

Post by Redfish » Mon Dec 12, 2011 12:32 pm

Let me start off by saying I despise multi piece rods...that being said, I find myself in need of one. I will be travelling to a little island in the middle of the Indian Ocean and space is of the utmost importance. What would you guys recommend as a good travel type rod? I have looked a little bit and have seen the st croix and g loomis (lil too expensive for such rare usage) Help me out if you can!

Thanks a ton!

I own the St. Croix 7 foot Premier. Its a Med. Power, fast action spinning rod. its a good rod for a 3 peice configuration and it comes with a PVC cordora covered travel tube which is great.

a lot of bang for the buck there.

I too would love the Loomis Escape series but its a bit much considering that I would be using it once or twice a year.

the one I have is the PS70MF3

I am different in that I like multi-piece rods quite a lot. Not saying I prefer them over a one piece but when travel is involved I much prefer to cope with travel rods. I found with fly fishing rods that properly constucted multi-piece rods can work very well.
I have several travel rods including 2 Loomis Escape and 2 other Loomis multi-piece rods. Also have 4 - 5 St Croix which are all Tidemaster travel rods, as well as many others. I will not say these (link below) are the best, but right now they are very good rods at the best deal, by far, in my opinion. I own many of these and they function and are very well made. I have no affiliation to any tackle or rod company, just my $.02.
They are near the end of very special pricing / sale which includes free ship. Their normal list prices are laughable, but currently I think they are the best deal going, and they are really good rods. (Not a Loomis and maybe not a lower end Croix - but very close). They have both cast (super lower delivered price of $80) and spin. Look at the Explorer series for each. Good luck.

Hi's Tackle Box 20% off until Christmas sale.

St Croix rods are not excluded and shipping is free. :big grin:

I picked up the Premier 6' Light 4pc travel rod for about $135...also be advised that the travel rods come with a nice carry case made by Stone Legacy which was also Made in the U.S.A.; the cases are about 30 bucks apiece themselves alone.

I really like the rod.

The promo code is XMAS11, the discount amount should show up as an item in your cart...the free shipping wil be indicated when you provide your location information for the shipping estimate calculator.

Nice as well, regarding other rods, is that the free shipping also applies to 1 piece rods.
