Rod of the Year 2011
Re: Rod of the Year 2011
I guess I would have to go with my Dobyns 705CB Graphite because I threw a ton of lipless cranks in the spring. Notable mentions to my DX744, DX743, 733C, and 735C though which all saw a good amount of action.

Ehh...
I didn't get it until the Black Friday sales, but my DX745 is perfect to me. Like I can't even put into words how much I love that rod. It feels like it was custom made just for me. Thanks to all the guys who answered every single one of my questions about it! Special thanks to civicrr!
I caught most of my bigger fish this year on the Cumara CUC-72MH or a Berkley Bionix 6' M/F "Fun Rod" that I put my 50E on with 4# Hybrid to throw cranks. I forgot I even had that Bionix rod. It fishes like a ML and it is FUN to catch near-eight pounders on.

Shimano Cumara CUC68MH. I don't know why but I catch my biggest fish of the season on this rod, year in and year out.

My rod of 2011 is a discontinued model of Major Craft - Major Stick MCSC-66M followed closely by the EG "The Gunslinger".

Re: Rod of the Year 2011
My custom spiral wrapped Phenix Ultra MBX 7'7"H with a lefty Revo Premier was awesome whether pitching jigs on local lakes, flinging big senkos at Amistad or ripping spoons at Fork. Unfortunately, a 5" spoon dragged it to a watery grave in Fork after my dumbarse accidentally knocked it off the deck of my boat.
The rod that made me smile all year long just for its fun factor is my custom MB841E Lamiglas. I love those rods!

Manufactured rods: Dobyns DX744 casting
Custom: Mattman Otterods NFC custom 7'6 line rating 12-20 lbs and lure rating 3/8oz to 1 1/8oz.
Both rods are extremely versatile for plastics, jigs, and spinnerbaits for me this year.

MBR 843 GLX ol' skool with the Weibe handle. Can't leave home without it. Great all purpose rod especially if you're bank fishing and could only walk with 2 rods.

Limiting to one rod to the Tackle Tour community is just like trying to stick a square peg into a round hole.bassbandit wrote:For the sake of discussion, let's limit it to just one rod... let's try to share a bit about what makes the rod special.
Dobyns 735 Champ: Because it caught my largest bass this season, just under 10lbs this past spring. 7" Senko on the Cal Delta.
Dobyns 805 Punch rod: Because it caught the most bass for me this season. Lots of punching this summer on the Cal Delta.
Powell 703CB glass: Last minute heriocs in a charity tournament I fished solo last month...caught three bass in 10 minutes on a bomber 7A to fill out my limit and cashed a check as a result.

Re: Rod of the Year 2011
Fell in love this year with a 6'11" ML Steez Megatop, and will be using it quite a bit come spring..but the rod I used more than all others was a 7'7" ML Compre, with 30 size Quantum Catalyst and 6 lb. Black Widow...got the rod new on ebay for about 40 bucks,on the reel on closeout sale at Cabelas for 70...lmao nice enough to perform well, not so nice as to refuse to take it on kayak expeditions ...

I would have to say my NRX 822DSR caught the most fish for me this year. Great drop shot rod!
Re: Rod of the Year 2011

Re: Rod of the Year 2011
Dobyns Champ 735C, it has been my go to rod for flipping and frog, which are my focus for this year, no fear in any kind of cover with Suffix 832

Re: Rod of the Year 2011
I picked up the Recon 744 this year for pitching my stick baits and absolutely fell in love with it. Doesn't matter where I have fished this year it's always on the deck.
Re: Rod of the Year 2011
x2 - nice strong stick - Im looking forward to comparing it to my Steez frog rod I just picked up.hc1230 wrote:Dobyns Champ 735C, it has been my go to rod for flipping and frog, which are my focus for this year, no fear in any kind of cover with Suffix 832

Zbone 7'3" H MF. At first wasn't thrilled with the MF action but it grew on me. This was my go to rod from July to November and it was strictly my Bull ribbit frog rod. It gave me many nice fish. A close second would be the Z bone 7'0 MH4 rod which is my T-rig rod.
