St Croix LTB

Post by dan668 » Thu Dec 22, 2011 10:43 am

I have an older avid that i dont use, trade in value is 140.
I need a rod for spinnerbaits, 90% of the time 1/2 oz. the rest of the time 3/8. Also want a rod to rip traps out of vegetation.

Would the newer 7'1 MH rods be suitable for this? I would get a different brand of rod but figured id take advantage of the trade up program.

Thanks

Which one? There is the MH/ fast and the MH/extra fast which would both be good but I think the fast action is the way to go with spinnerbaits. My neighbor is a St.Croix fan and has a bunch of the older LTB and they are nice rod and with you needing a good spinnerbait rod and a trade up program it couldn't be any better. So, yes, the LTB 7'1" MH/F will make a great spinnerbait rod.

Agreed with smalljaw on this. The LTB rods are awesome rods. I've got a mix of full grips and split grips and they have been great. I would much prefer a cranking rod for traps but the medium heavy power / fast action should give you plenty of backbone to rip them out.

I would go Med Heavy Fast for the 1/2oz spinnerbaits. With the 3/8oz spinnerbaits, you can opt for the Med Fast though Med Heavy will work as well. For vegetation, I would probably go with the med heavy fast. The St. Croix's are a little more powerful than their rating.

I dont think you are going to get $140 for an avid :-k ](*,)

anyway, if the new mh 7'1" sweeper is anything like the old 7' mh sweeper that I have then you will love it for spinnerbaits. Also a great swim jig and fb jig rod. One of my all time favorite croix sticks ;)

I use a 70MHF casting rod from St. Croix almost exclusively for 1/2oz blades, and I am very happy with the results. 8-)

I used the st. Croix truimph 7 foot medium-heavy fast and worked great for blades. The LTB would work for blades but not traps I like a mod-fast for traps
