Phenix recon rod
Phenix recon rod
Hello tackle tour,
Long time member just haven't posted much. I have a question regarding phenix recon 714 and 715. I have been using 3/8 - 1/2 oz spinnerbaits but I feel it's under power sometime thru weeds. Which recon would be comparable to the loomis 843 glx? Thanks in advance

Re: Phenix recon rod
The 714 is closer. The 715 feels more in line with an MBR844. I got a Recon 744 at the sportsman's expo last week, i plan on using as a multipurpose rods, just as i used to do with my 843s.
I think the 4 power recon would make a great all purpose Delta/CL rod... I'm thinking spinner, and chatter baits... occasional senko and square bill.

715 makes a better jig rod than spinnerbait its a lot stiffer. Throwing blades the 714 is better choice thats what i use for 3/8 to 1/2 oz. I'd comment on the Gloomis sticks but its been awhile since i have thrown those. Also it says you are located in the Bay area HI's tackle carries the Recon line. I was just in there saturday he had a pretty good size variety of recons.

Thx robchik04 and jmatsuoka, Im using the recon 714 as my spinner rod, it just felt a bit under power using 1/2oz. I wonder if the recon 715 would be a better choice? What reel did you use?

Ksachao, I think the 714 works fine in lakes and sparse weeds, but if your fishing the Delta and other fisheries with lots of vegetation that your either ripping yours blades out of or fighting fish out of you will be much better off with the Recon 715!! Last thing you want is a 5lb plus fish burried up in the thick stuff and you don't have the right stick to get them out!

Oh, sorry... I thought you were trying to choose between a 714 and 715, i didnt realize you were saying you had a 714 and thought it was underpowered. Yea, for sure bump up to the 715 if you're not feeling the 714, demote that guy to your Senko rod

Thanks everyone for their input. Guess I'll have to get a hold on the recon 715 for a better feel.
Re: Phenix recon rod
I have the 715 and it would be a great half ounce SB rod in cover. Powerful rod it still has some tip.

715 is defintly the rod you need for the Delta.
Re: Phenix recon rod
I don't usually go bigger than 3/8 oz on 714 because of its lighter I'd say 715 is your better choice. For reel i use curado mostly i like anything in the 6-1 gear ratio. Helps me move line while casting forward. i use 5-1 for colder days in winter time. Hope this helps, sorry i didn't read your post quite right the first time.
