The 803 is my go to rod. I use it for shallow and smaller Texas rigs plastics I keep a 3/16 bullet weight on the line with a 1/0. hook, and pitching light jigs, mostly in around cover where the 893 is to long or I am in close enough on the structure that I don't need the distance or the depth of the 893 excels at. I keep a 3/8 bullet weight with a 3/0 when I fish Texas rigged plastics. I like the action on the 803 so much that I have thought about getting another one just to be able to quickly switch back forth from a jig to Texas rigged plastic.

The main lake I fish has huge lake level fluctuations, as its a main source for local irrigation in the area. We see about 110 feet worth of lake rise and fall during a season, so the lake is always changing. We received about 3/4" of rain last night over about 560 sq mi and It rose 3 feet in 15 hours today and we are about 35 feet from max capacity. At the peak its about 19 miles worth of shore and at the low pool level its about 6 miles. Very seldom do you ever get a chance to fish the same structure twice.

I just realized your rods are resting on a saw horse. I was about to ask you where you got the custom looking wall mount rod rack :laugh1: I'm not gonna kid you, it's hard going through life being this stupid ](*,)

My setups have changed a lot since my first post on this thread back in the winter time. Here she goes:

Spinning
1)G.Loomis NRX 6'10Mag-Med/Shimano Sustain 2500FG. Drop Shot/Finesse stuff.(6lb Sunline SuperFC Fluoro)
2)G.Loomis GLX 6'8Med-Hvy/Shimano Stradic 2500CI4. Senko/Tube Jig. (15lb Fireline Tracer Braid)

Casting
3)G.Loomis NRX 7'1 Hvy/ Shimano Core 50Mg7. Pitching 3/8oz-3/4oz Jigs. (50lb Sunline FX2 Braid)
4)G.Loomis NRX 7'3Med-Hvy/ Shimano Core 50Mg7. Pitching 1/4-1/2oz Plastics.(50lb Sunline FX2 Braid)
5)G.Loomis Bronzeback 6'10Med-Hvy/Shimano Calais 200A. Spinnerbaits 3/8-3/4oz.(30lb Super Slick Braid)
6)Daiwa Zillion 8'Med-Hvy/Daiwa Zillion 100PA. Small Swimbait/Alabama Rig.(40lb Super Slick Braid)
7)Rovic Custom St. Croix 7'Med-Hvy/Daiwa Zillion 50th 100SHSA. Skinny Dipper/Fluke. (30lb Super Slick Braid)

8) Shimano Cumulus 6'10Med-Hvy Casting Rod. Still waiting for the reel buy going to put the 100MG Shimano Core on the rod. 15lb braided line and fishing poppers and twitch baits with this setup. Will tie a leader on when needed.

9) G.Loomis Crankbait Series 7'6Med-Hvy/Shimano Calais 100A. Using this setup for 85% of my crankbait fishing this year. Putting 12lb Sunline SuperFC Fluorocarbon on it. Both rod/reel are on order.

10) Daiwa Steez 7'4 XH Frog Rod. This rod too I have on order as the weapon for my frog fishing. Really think this rod will end up with a Daiwa Zillion Type-R and 60lb Sunline FX2 Braid.

And that is it + 1 more. Still deciding on a big pitching stick to pair with a Core50. 11 setups in the boat this year, can't wait!

Way to many =P~ , I keep telling myself that I am just about   finished with my collection but who am I kidding. I am seriously thinking about seeking treatment  . I used to be fine with the cheap stuff until I found TT and started reading posts from guys like ](*,) Bronzefly  . Thanks Gary for making my savings account non exsistant  due to your advice on TDZ reels which led to getting Steez reels also. If you know somebody that can help out our =P~ =P~ =P~ sickness let me know, maybe we can get a group discount.

I found this thread to be very useful in my own combo preparations.

But the last post is about two years old now, and we need to refresh it by posting our NEW combos. '

I would post my own combos, but mine are still a work in progress.

Along with listing the combos, it's helpful to know the techniques and applications (deep cranks, spinnerbaits, etc.) and what types of waters are being fished. That puts the combos into perspective, and provides useful information.

Mine are always changing but I think I've settled… for a while at least!

Spinning:

• G. Loomis NRX 842S SJR & Shimano Sustain 3000FG with… haven't decided yet! Either 6 lb. or 8 lb. fluoro, or 10 lb. or 12 lb. Nanofil. Will be used for drop shotting and light plastics like the Yamamoto Shad Shape Worm on a jig head. COMBO JUST PICKED UP YESTERDAY (the greatest boss ever!)

Casting:

• G. Loomis GLX 802C JWR & Shimano Chronarch 50Mg with 12 lb. fluoro --- topwater (pop max, xpod jr.), small jerkbaits (trick darter 80), 1/4 oz. Tiny T spinnerbaits
• G. Loomis GLX 803C JWR & Shimano Calais 200A with 15 lb. fluoro --- close-range pitchin' of plastics, t-rigs, small jigs, hollow belly swimbaits, and spinnerbaits
• Shimano Convergence Spinnerbait Rod 6'10" MHF & Shimano Chronarch 100B with 17 lb. fluoro --- 1/2 oz. spinnerbaits
• Shimano Cumara Deep Crank Rod 7'0 MHMF & Shimano Calcutta TE200DC with 30 lb. braid --- traps and shallow-medium cranks
• G. Loomis BCR 893 GLX & Shimano Calais 200DC with 17 lb. fluoro --- senkos, soft jerkbaits
• G. Loomis NRX 893 JWR & Shimano Core 50Mg7 with 30 lb. braid --- senkos, tubes and lizards
• G. Loomis NRX 895 JWR & Shikano Core 100MgFV with 50 lb. braid / 20 lb. fluoro --- flipping

Extra Reel:

• Shimano Calcutta TE200GT --- to be paired with a NRX 916 UBR (hopefully) in the summer to handle my big swimbaits

That's what I have so far… I'll be trying some tournaments next summer and now need to fill some boxes to hopefully fill the live well!

I have 21 reels but have many more rods. Depending on where Im going to fish, Ill set up combos depending on what Im likely to encounter.Very rarely do I end up taking all of them though. So I would say 20 give or take.
