Pitchn and Flippn

Post by got2be5 » Sun Mar 18, 2012 10:58 am

Here goes trying to decide on a P N F rod. The magical NRX 893 is a little light for 3/8 to 1/2 jigs plus trailer.Trying not give up sesitivity (like eveyone else).Does anyone use the BCFR line (863,954)?Imostly want to use this rod around the edges,so i dont need something super heavy and 80# braid.Any and all feedback is welcomed!!! THANKS

I have a BCFR954 GLX flipping stick and I can tell you it is a stout rod. It is meant for heavy cover and heavy pound test line. It says on the blank that the line rating is 15 to 25# but I wouldn't fish 15# on this rod ever. It is a great rod for its intended purpose but for what you described I think it may be a little overkill. If you used 17# line and set your drag perfectly you would most likely be ok but this particular rod is really meant for the heavier cover. It is very sensative and fairly light for what it is though.

I really enjoy mine but I only use it certain times of the year or when I'm fishing the heaviest cover on the lake, like say August when the grass is at its thickest with a nice moss covering to boot or when I fish in heavy wood. I don't think you would be disappointed with the sensativity but it would most likely be to heavy a power for what you're wanting. Maybe all this made sense and I hope it helps ya out.

Since you mention NRX I know your not affraid to spend the loot... I love the 7'1" Compile-X in the Steez line. It's a badass setup and can handle 1/2oz jigs with no issue.

BCR 864 GLX is a nice step up from the BCR 893 in power It's been my go to for the same applications you describe.

i have the 8' steez compile-x and it is still my favorite rod. i'm not fishing bottom contact baits too much with this thing (unless you categorize pitching and flipping jigs into tules as bottom contact fishing) so the sensitivity is fine for me.

I find the 7'1" to be stiffer then the 8'er. I personally was uncomfortable with anything over 1/2oz on the 8, but good up to about 3/4oz on the 7'1".

Sensitivity, damn good. I love that rod.

that's interesting. that really goes to show how everyone differs. i have punched the delta and clear lake with 1+ ounce rigs on my 8' steez. i know a couple of ohers that have too. in fact, i don't use anything under 1/2 ounce with that rod.

wow .... really interesting. :D
