Question on Mike Long Jig Rod

Post by purple_champ193 » Mon Apr 09, 2012 5:17 am

I am thinking about getting one of these rods for throwing football jigs and was wondering what the upper weight limit is? I regularly through 3/4oz (plus trailer) and sometimes go as high as 1 oz. Many people have raved about how it fishes 1/2oz jigs but I was wondering about the heavier ones?

I've thrown 1oz c-rigs on mine. Not a lot, but enough to know it was not an issue for it. Great rod. Nice to have that extra length for long leader c-rigs, too.

I've been using 3/4 oz jigs with mine lately, and it handled them just fine. I don't think I've thrown 1 oz jigs with it, but I've thrown some small swimbaits (1-2 oz) and the rod handled them fine also.

I throw up to 3/4 oz football jigs with no problems. The rod can definitely handle an ounce and more. I have thrown swim baits up to an ounce and spinnerbaits up to 1 and 1/2 oz as well as footballs and Texas rigs down to 1/4 oz. It is a very versatile rod.
