what if you could only use 3 setups

Post by WickedPerch » Wed Apr 10, 2013 7:40 pm

you get 3 setups to do all your fishing. what are they?
7'3"H/F falcon bucoo- jigs frogs
7"MH/MF falcon bucoo- cranks jerks topwaters spinnerbaits
7'ML/F lews tourney pro spinning- wacky rig drop shot shakey head
if there were 3 rod tourneys out of canoes, im taking errrryone down. fact.

That's easy! For me a Phenix MBX 707H casting rod. It can handle everything! By itself. But since you give two more options, I would take a MBX 706M spinning rod, and a X13 crankbait and topwater rod!

Medium light fast action 6'8 - 6'10 casting rod with a finesse bait cast reel. Light lures / baits of all types
Medium heavy fast action 6'9 - 7'2 casting rod. Lures / baits up to one ounce
Medium fast action cranking rod with low gear reel for mid depth cranks
All braid with fluoro leader. Fast action rods can do just about anything. When I fish from the back of the boat I only bring 3 set ups.
6'8 Recon ML with an upgraded, tuned Fuego. 10 lb. Performance braid
7'1 Omen Black MH, Chronarch 51E tuned, 15 lb. Sunline braid
7'0 Dobyns Champion Glass MH Fast, Zillion Crazy Cranker, 30 lb. Power Pro Original

MB 705 IM North Fork custom extended to 7'3" (love mine)--jigs, t-rigs, heavier cranking, c-rigs, spinners

SJ 704 IM or 804 IM trimmed down---lighter jigs, finesse casting stuff, jerkbaits, cranks, buzzbaits, tubes, senkos

SJ 842 GLX custom, still have one that damn rod will do everything--one of the most versatile well balanced spinning rods ever built--too bad shimloomis doesn't offer the blank or a built 842 (glx)

For me this is easy but something that just won't happen unless I'm walking shoreline or on a untra light camping trip.

1)G.Loomis NRX852S JWR/Stella FB 3000
Tubes,Jerkbaits,Shaky Jigs,Senko's,Poppers. With a 2nd spool and a fluorocarbon option as well as 10lb braid on this rod you would be amazed on just how much this can fish.

2)G.Loomis NRX873C CRR/Core 100MgFV
Pitching Jigs/Plastics,Worm's,anything texas rigged, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, skinny dippers. 50lb braid and adding fluoro lead for some situations.

3)G.Loomis BCFR894 GLX/Core 100MgFV
Flipping cover and would suffice as a frogging rod. Straight 60lb FX2

meach, thats a long way from my neck of the woods, Ive only been to kittery once. But on the turnpike there is a monsterous truck stop/rest stop in kittery and that place has a lot of free pamphlets on hunting and fishing. If you use the turnpike to get there, that rest stop would be worth you time. Thats all I got, sorry man

Dobyns Champion Extreme 702C Finesse.......small plastics, wacky worms, Pointer 78, Shakey head

Megabass Rattle Viper: small cranks, weightless plastics , flukes, Mojo rigs

Shimano Cumulus for Spinning......a magnificent beauty! (Soon to be knocked down one step when the Megabass Aaron Marten Limited Ed. Dropshot rod "

These set-ups have made my fishing pretty near "effortless." Money very well spent.

Depends on what body of water...the real key is whether there will be a spinning rod in my arsenal.

Safe bets for most of my bass fishing needs:

MBR 842/843/844...GLX preferred.

I happen to only use 3 setups since I am blessed to live next to one of the best LMB stocked rivers in the nation. The San Diego river is very narrow and can only be fished by shore to get to the best bass holding spots. My three are as follows:

Dobyns Champion 683sf

Dobyns Champion 704cb glass fast

Dobyns Champion Extreme 744c Full handle
