YOUR favorite jerkbait stick
Re: YOUR favorite jerkbait stick
Not trying to jack this thread but is sensitivity important for a jerkbait rod?
Re: YOUR favorite jerkbait stick
I just ordered a Powel Max TW Composite Jerkbait Casting Rod From Tackle Warehouse on the Black Friday sale. Did I make the right choice to throw Lucky Craft Pointer 100's? I'll be using as Zillion with 10 pound floro.

Re: YOUR favorite jerkbait stick
That's what I thought too, in June '12 I used SC XF rods for jerkbaits, then Fs. Then I saw my buddy using a Steez Flexlite 6'6" with a 103 bay casting I thought it was ridiculous. When I tried it out I was amazed at its casting abilities, then on retrieve....the best way I can explain is that I can make twitches while the bait is in continuous motion, as the line is under tension the whole time.thelatrobe33 wrote:Probably a lot like a wet noodle I can't see how anyone would use that rod for jerkbaits, but to each their own I guess.Hogsticker2 wrote:Too long for me. It's rebound is strong and fast enough to sling a jerkbait the distances I like, yet its compliant enough to keep the hooks pinned using PE, it also makes subtle manipulations on good suspending jerkbaits like the MB vision easy.
Jerkbaits on FC or mono? That I'm still searching, I guess optimum power and taper would depend on the distances I'm casting.
I found I don't get missed strikes with softer rods as it just loads and pins the lure. That said I do miss the thumpthumpthump sensation of a fish hitting a jerkbait a XF rod + PE!
Speaking of wet noodles, I have bream fishing pals going nuts using 1.5" jerkbaits with elixir 7' - 7'6".

I am seriously considering this rod. Would love to hear your feedback on it after using it.StarTzar wrote:I have this on order. Should receive it within the next two weeks.

Unfortunately our climate up here won't allow for that until June!aqua71 wrote:I am seriously considering this rod. Would love to hear your feedback on it after using it.StarTzar wrote:I have this on order. Should receive it within the next two weeks.

Winter is setting in, still no snow but cold!!!
I'm interested too.
Re: YOUR favorite jerkbait stick
If I can get the rod within the next two week period and we get a fairly mild day (0 degrees) I'll be trying it out from the shoreline.biggs wrote:Unfortunately our climate up here won't allow for that until June!aqua71 wrote:I am seriously considering this rod. I've been using the 684CB and like it for that technique.
Given that the specs on the 634 are the same as the 684, I expect the 634CB to be similar in action.
I might even try out the 635CB.

Re: YOUR favorite jerkbait stick
I to use the 66mf avid for jerkbaits. It is strange how well this rod work for this technique. I use it for a lot in my kayak, my one rod does it all. I do bring a second rod dedicated for the main goal of the day and the avid to fill in the holes for everything else that comes up.lmbfisherman wrote:My favorite jerkbait rod for this would be my M/F 6'6" St. Croix Avid. I also like my reaction Cumara 6'8" MH/XF too, but not as much as my Avid. There is just something about it that makes it perfect.

Re: YOUR favorite jerkbait stick
Anyone still using Loomis bronzback rods by chance?
The 6'3 smr 753c-jb, or the 6'9 smr 812c-jb?
Rods are beautiful and I've always wanted one. Don't know much about them though, and now they're somewhat dated.

Almost all my jerkbaits are 3/8 to 1oz. My favorite rod is a custom otterrod based on a sc legendxtreme MHM 7'2".
